Are looks important in a relationship?
Anyone who says physical appearance isn’t in the least bit significant is either:

  • Suffering from hypogonadism (testosterone deficiency, if male)
  • Cheating on his/her significant other
  • Post-menopausal (if female)
  • In lack of any sense of self-worth
  • 12 years of age

Of course they’re significant. You expect to be attracted to the person you’re with in every way possible. And when it comes down to it, our sole (evolutionary) purpose on this planet as humans is to procreate. Which means emotional connections are the direct result of a complex series of biochemical pathways and reactions…which would, in turn, further assist reproduction.

But we’re obviously more complex than that. Or at least we like to think so. In which case, there’s Tolstoy’s famous, “It is not beauty that endears, it’s love that makes us see beauty.”

Which I have to agree with.

May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you’re wonderful, and don’t forget to make some art — write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself.
